skin-cancer-sunburn-sunscreen-us-general-surgeon-warningReleased yesterday, U.S. Surgeon General Boris Lushniak issued a public warning that skin cancer is a “major public health problem” and issued an immediate call to prevent the disease. His report also stated that skin cancer in the United States, unlike many other cancers, continues to rise with about 5 million new cases annually. Melanoma figures were released too with around 63,000 people developing this deadliest form of skin cancer each year and 9,000 people dying from it.

Much of the rise is a result of people getting too much exposure to indoor and outdoor UV light. The report frowns upon on the use of tanning beds, and calls for all individuals regardless of skin color to minimize sun exposure through the use of sunscreens, sunglasses, hats, and shade. Don’t be afraid to go outdoors and enjoy the weather, but use caution and “take steps to protect your skin.”

Be sure to use a broad spectrum UVA and UVB blocking sunscreen. We recommend the TwinLuxe Anti-Aging SPF Moisturizer as the complete skincare and suncare tool to help you stay safe and moisturized in the sun.
